Are you considering marketing your business through promotional videos but unsure if it’s worth the investment? Here is your complete checklist, designed to help you assess your likelihood of turning a profit.


Part 1 — Making a splash

The more potential customers who view your video, the more sales you are likely to receive. Will your video make a big splash? Here are several conventional and potentially overlooked methods for getting more views.
Web traffic. Post your promotional video on your home page as well as any other page where it fits naturally. Place the video in an eye-catching location with text either on the thumbnail, or beside the video, that invites viewers to watch the video.
Post on social media. You already know to do this, but remember to post multiple times. Your promotional video will remain a powerful marketing tool for years to come. Not everyone will see it the first time. One tip is to pin the video to the top of your feed. Make sure to upload the video file, not a link to YouTube, as other social media platforms do not like sending their users off their app onto YouTube.
Embed it in emails. If you have built an email list (or plan to), ideally you should embed your promotional video in an automated email that goes out to any new subscribers to your newsletter. Also, email the video to any existing subscribers.
Organic YouTube traffic. It depends on your niche, but you can normally rely on YouTube to garner you dozens to hundreds of free views from people interested in what you have to say. You’ll want an attention-grabbing thumbnail, a title that will grab your target audience’s attention, and a video description rich in keywords your target audience will likely type into search engines. Sending your own traffic to the video will help get the ball rolling.
Turn the video into an ad. Uploading your video as a Facebook or YouTube ad can easily get you hundreds of views from your target audience. Of course, in this case, you not only have to earn back the price of your promotional video, but the ad cost as well. However, if your video is compelling and you earn enough from each new customer, this can turn into a highly-effective money-making machine. One way to make the most of your ad is to use retargeting. With retargeting you can deliver your ad directly to anyone who has visited your website or a specific page on your website. This is free to set up and serves to converts people who are on the fence.
Create a clickable thumbnail for your email signature. This way you market the video with every email you send. 
Get influencers on board. Influential people you have never even met may be eager to share your video with their audience. You just have to position yourself right. Your best bets are companies and organizations you have already helped in some way. For instance, if you offer a service to local businesses, many of the businesses you have previously worked with may be happy to share your video on social media. Also, if you mention an influencer in your video, that influencer may be willing to share your video, pleased with the impact that they have made in your life. Incentivize your audience to share. Most of your audience will not mind giving you some free advertising, but they are probably just too busy. You can offer them something of value in exchange for sharing your video. If a thousand people see your video, how many of them will become customers?
This depends so much on who views your video.  A professional research team would be needed to create an accurate calculator.
Here is a simple rule of thumb though: consider your personal experience with pitching your product or service to potential customers in-person or through online sales pitches/sales copy. Out of a thousand viewers, how many would reasonably become buyers?
If you have a percentage, plug it into the number of views you estimated you could accrue. Now you have a good estimate of how many customers a professional video could reasonably bring in within one year. Multiply this by your average profit per customer. 
This estimate will help you decide if a professional promotional video is worth the investment.
